Why
you make ask, should I buy handmade soap when I can get more soap for
less money at Wal-mart or the grocery store? I used to think the very same way
until I actually used a bar of handmade soap and not only saw the difference
but FELT the difference. Now I hope to never use another commercially
made bar of soap again.
Generally, the
comercial soaps carried at most chain stores, etc. are full of chemical
additives, additives that not only dry out your skin but can lead to
rashes and other irritations. This is not only because of the synthetic
additives in the soap but also because most soap companies take the glycerin
out of their soap.
IF
the soap company does put in some natural ingredients along with its
synthetic ones, they do so in such small quantities as for it to be inconspicuous
in the soap. Its main purpose is to catch the eye of the consumer
and give them the illusion that this soap is more natural. If you
read the ingredient labels though, the soap is still primarily made with
synthetic ingredients.
Using commercial soaps
over time leave your skin dried out, sensitive and feeling like its
never clean. Natural handmade soap, that only uses natural ingredients,
can restore the moisture to your skin, while still getting you clean. You
will be amazed at the difference!
What is Handmade Soap?
Handmade soap is
a cleanser made with simple ingredients that are good for your skin.
In the handcrafted soap making process, oils and fats are combined with
lye to produce soap and glycerin. Modern soap is still made by this basic
process, but a handcrafted soap offers many unique benefits for your
skin.
Handcrafted Soap
is made by combining oils or fats with lye and water. The resulting reaction
creates soap and glycerin. Soap cleanses the skin while glycerin moisturizes
it. Many handmade soaps also contain butters and other oils to increase
the moisturizing effect of the sooap and herbs and other natural items
for an exfoliant.
What is Handcrafted Soap
made of?
Our handcrafted soap is made using in small
batches using a cold process or melt and pour method that many individual
soap makers use. For our cold process soaps, we
select the highest quality pure skin-loving oils such as olive oil, coconut
oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, hemp oil, calendula oil, palm kernel
oil, jojoba oil, and soy oil. We also use rich butters and other rich
oils to enhance the moisturizing capabilities of the soap, butters and
oils like cocoa butter, shea butter mango butter, honey, aloe vera, castor
oil, lanolin, and wheat germ oil. Essential oils, natural herbs, and
specially formulated body safe fragrance oils add the soap's fragrance;
cosmetic-grade colorants and natural herb powders add color to our soap;
and botanicals, spices, and other natural ingredients add texture and
exfoliants. It is not unusual to find handcrafted soap made with such
things as oatmeal, sliced almonds, corn meal, rosemary leaves, lavender
leaves and buds, and other goodies that provide light, gentle exfoliation
for your skin. Most of our handcrafted soaps are enriched with additional
oils that are suspended in the soap and applied directly to the skin
while bathing, providing even more moisturization.
For our melt and pour soaps, we select only the highest
quality melt and pour soaps available. All our melt and pour
soaps are made of all natural vegetable ingredients; then we color and scent
them in the same manner as we do our cold process soaps.
What's so great about Glycerin?
Glycerin is naturally
produced during the soap making process. In fact, pound for
pound, glycerin costs more than soap, which is why most soap companies
remove the glycerin from the soap and sell it to manufacturers of lotion.
We do not remove the glycerin from our handcrafted soap, so when you
purchase soap made by us, it contains all of the naturally occurring
glycerin. With our handcrafted soap you get a fabulous cleanser
and a moisturizer all in one, which was created for top moisturizing
ability. The same holds true for our speciality soaps made for soothing
the muscle aches of over-exertion or arthritis, or for our antifungal
soaps, or our poison ivy soap to help soothe the itches!
Will the Lye in my Handcrafted Soap
burn me?
NO!! Although
lye is used to make handmade soaps, the chemical reaction between
all of the ingredients used in the soap making process causes the lye
to be literally “reacted away,” and transformed into a
mild, effective bar of pure handcrafted soap
How do I take Care of my Handcrafted
Soap?
Since
handcrafted soap has no synthetic chemical preservatives but has natural
preservatves such as carrot root oil, grapeseed oil extract or Vitamin
E, your bar of handcrafted soap needs more care and diligence to insure
a long life. (Note that even with natural preservatives, if kept cool
and dry, natural handcrafted soaps generally have a shelf life of 3 years. Some
may have less depending on the composition of the specific soap).
